Firewood burners – a better alternative for the environment

When it comes to heating your home, burning firewood instead of coal or natural gas can have a far lower impact on the environment.

The main reason for this is that unlike these alternative energy sources, firewood isn’t a fossil fuel which can never be replaced. Instead, it is considered to be a renewable energy source as the trees used for firewood can be replanted.

Additionally, if firewood is sourced ethically and locally, it is an almost carbon neutral energy source. Although (like fossil fuels) it releases carbon dioxide into the air when burned, firewood gives off the same amount whether it is burned or it decays naturally. Other factors that can also influence its environmental impact is the appliance, or wood burner, that is used and its energy and safety ratings, burning only dry wood,  and the management of the burn temperature.

U.K based chimney sweep company, SweepSmart, explores all of these issues in detail in this blog - read more here: https://www.sweepsmart.co.uk/post/are-wood-burners-bad-for-the-environment
